What is an App?
An App is a self-contained Essembi application inside your organization. Each app has its own data (tables and fields), workspaces and views, teams and security, users, settings, and optional modules such as the Production Module.
How Apps Fit in Essembi
- Organization — Your company or business entity. Organization administrators manage apps, licensing, and organization-level users.
- Apps — One or more applications under the organization. Most manufacturers run a single app; additional apps are useful when business units need separate data and security.
- Teams — Groups inside an app that control role-based security and workflows. Each user in an app is assigned to a team.
- Users — People who sign in to Essembi. A user can belong to multiple organizations and apps, with access controlled per app.
For more on inviting users and configuring teams, see Team and User Setup.
Creating an App
Organization administrators can create apps from organization settings:
- Open Licensing / organization settings from the top bar (or Organizations from the user menu).
- Select Apps.
- Select Create.
- In Create App, choose an App Template (or Blank App), then enter a Name, Identifier, and optional Description.
- Select Continue to create the app. When prompted, launch the new app to open it.
When an app is created, Essembi sets up an Administrators team and adds the creating user as an app administrator (when that user belongs to the organization).
Name and Identifier must be unique within the organization. The identifier is used in the app URL: /a/{organization}/{app}/….
Opening and Switching Apps
There is no separate “switch app” control. To open a different app, launch it from your Apps list:
- User menu → Apps — Shows the apps you can access across organizations, with Last Accessed and a Launch action.
- Organization → Apps — Shows apps in that organization; organization administrators can also Create and Launch from here.
After visiting organization settings, use Return to {App Name} to go back to the last app you were using.
What Lives in an App
Everything you build and run day to day lives inside the current app:
- Workspaces and views — Sheets, charts, boards, gantt charts, timelines, and published dashboards. See Workspaces and Views.
- Tables, fields, and data models — The structure of your data. See Data Models, Tables and Fields.
- Data entry forms — How users create and edit records. See Data Entry Forms.
- Teams, users, and invitations — Who can access the app and what they can do. See Team and User Setup and Role-Based Security.
- Automations, integrations, API keys, data imports, and input devices — Tools that connect processes, systems, and shop-floor hardware to the app.
- Modules — Optional packaged capabilities installed for the app (for example, manufacturing / production).
App Settings
Inside an app, open Settings in the left menu (requires the team Access Settings right). Settings are grouped into:
Customize
- Automations
- Tables
- Forms
- Data Models
- Workspaces
- Published Dashboards
- Customer Portal Setup
- App Settings — Edit app-level description and module options (for example, Production Automation when the production module is installed)

- Users
- Invitations
- Teams

- API Keys
- Data Imports
- Input Devices — Barcode scanners, RFID readers, and related keyboard-wedge devices
- Integrations
Workspaces marked to show under Settings also appear in this menu.
Modules
Modules are optional packages installed per app. They add pre-configured tables, fields, reports, and behaviors without requiring you to build that foundation from scratch.
Module installation and licensed features are typically managed during Essembi implementation. Once a module is active in your app, its tables and reports become available alongside your custom data model when you build workspaces and views.
Production Module
The Production Module is Essembi’s manufacturing module for work orders, routings, lines, incidents, sensors, OEE, run rates, labor costing, and related production workflows.
Related production help:
- Production Module — Tables, fields, relationships, and OEE calculations
- Available Reports — OEE, run rates, labor costs, active work orders, and more
- Sensors — Floor sensors for counts and incidents
- Edge Devices — Local Pulse collection for sensors and scales
Multiple Apps in One Organization
Organizations can have more than one app. Use multiple apps when you need clear separation—for example, distinct business units with different users, security, and data. Prefer a single app when teams share the same processes and need one place to work.
Each app has its own:
- Administrators team and security model
- Users and invitations
- Tables, forms, workspaces, and modules
Users navigate between apps by launching the app they need from Apps.
